I'm STILL an addict

Posted on: January 28, 2008 6:22 am

I hate using the term addict, but to be honest, that's what I am. I've been on pain killers for 6 years now (since Jan. '02) from 7 back surgeries that I've had. I've been to rehab, and that worked for a little while, not long-term. I was staying away from the pills from the time I exited rehab (Feb. '07) until my first cousin, whom I was very close to passed on this past Summer. She was only 23, and it really did me in... still does. All I have to do is come up with the smallest of excuses to take some pills. It's pathetic. I need to be in the Word and pray more often than i do, then I know my struggle with them would be less intense. I'm sorry if this is a bore to you, I just need to vent. Anyway, I do have reason to take them most of the time, because I suffer with chronic pain. However, when I'm not in pain I still take them. If my prescription runs out, I'll just buy them off the street, sad huh? If you are a believer, I would greatly appreciate your prayers.. if not, some kind of encouragement would be wonderful. Thanks for letting me vent. Peace and God bless.

I'm STILL an addict

Excellent blog.

I like your courage.

Some of the best hockey players I know in So Cal coulda been NHL got hooked on the pills.

Such a nightmare throwing their lives away and going crazy.

Even Brett Favre!

Very tough.  Sounds like you gotta go to Dr. Drew Celeb Rehab.  They wouldn't let me on.

Some B.S. about, Not famous enough!

http://www.vh1.com/shows/dyn/celebrity_rehab_with_dr_drew/series.jhtml

Sounds like you gotta not take 'em at all.  Even legit for back pain.

alternative medicines or herbs

Pills are scary!

Today's Bible verse from http://www.christnotes.org/dbv.php?d=2008-01-28&ver=niv

My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek. Psalm 27:8

I'm STILL an addict

HogfaninTx - You have had some excrutiating situations to deal with...  I pray for your accepting of yourself, as you know God does.  The point is you're aware, are doing the best you can for the moment, and it doesn't mean it will last forever.  Losing someone close to you can be so devastating, and remember you were doing well before your loss.  Remember it's your physical body that's addicted, not your heart, soul, or being.  Maybe going back to rehab again would help. It worked once.  May God bless and keep you.

I'm STILL an addict

As a note to IL papa, Brett Favre has had problems with depression for years, and so has Ricki Williams.  That is not a weakness, it is a physical problem.  Look at where Favre is now - isn't that the best part of his story?
